Lotteries and Sports

The connection between lotteries and sports begins with the most ancient European lotteries. These were held in Rome along with sporting events as part of religious festivals. This relationship of lotteries with sports perhaps came naturally for the ancient Roman as they seem to have viewed the lotteries as a sort of sport. In sport as in the lottery the results are determined by a measure of luck and Divine Will.

In many states where the lottery is an international business, the profits from the lottery often are dedicated to supporting education and the sports industry. The logic behind this stems from the fact that both the lottery and the sports industry are a form of entertainment and the sports industry, while very profitable in the most upper echelons of the major leagues, is sadly less profitable in the little leagues. However, without the little leagues there will never be any major leagues. Thus the lottery is an excellent tool for the support of the various little leagues.

There are some who claim that participating in a lottery is really a form of sport. The whole point of sport (from the health point of view) is to raise your pulse in exercise and this, for a short period, get your heart beating faster and your body working out. The excitement of a lottery drawing can be similarly exciting and stimulating. The pulse can race from the suspense and the sheer enjoyment of the draw. Momentarily the body is working and the heart is pumping faster. This is a great form of exercise that does not even require that you actually actively do anything (except buy your ticket). What could be healthier and more fun? Why not have this in mind the next time you participate in a lottery. I can assure you that such positive thinking will only do you good!
